ScreensaverI noticed a few requests for screensavers in AFE, and was also prompted by an email from Simon Lacey, who is creating a screensaver with the ArcElite ships. Anyway I decided to create an Elite screensaver. The screensaver is currently on version 2.1 Features for version 2.1:
Shaded / Wireframe You can choose between classic Elite-style wireframe, or shaded models with lighting. The wireframe option also allows antialiasing. 3 different frame rates Depending on the power of your processor, you can choose between 15 fps, 30 fps and 60 fps. If the screensaver runs particularly fast, or slow on your computer, try a different frame rate option. Random / Ordered Choose whether the list of ships is repeated in sequence or randomly, Scale / Up close If you want to see how big the ships were intended to be, relative to one another, enable the scale option. The scaling of BBC Elite ships correspond quite well with the dimensions stated in the manual. If you would rather have a close look at all the ships, disable the scale option. Stop rendering Most OpenGL screensavers are very processor hungry. If, for example, your monitor goes into standby 10 minutes after the screensaver kicks in, you might as well save your processor the job of drawing the screensaver. Set the stop rendering option to 'after 10 mins'. Adjust this depending on your power management settings. |
